Tranquil Light
is the alternate side of electronic-singer-songwriter, Meredith Blis.
This compositional project merges her passions for yoga and production alongside her background in both piano & classical composition.
“I am so grateful for the joy of creating these soundscapes
with the intention of bringing healing and light to others"
About TranQuil Light
Before Meredith headed off down the songwriting path, she studied classical composition at The Juilliard School in New York City. Since that time, both classical music and arranging have always held a special place in her heart.
Tranquil Light is an opportunity to share that piece of her creative voice
“Oftentimes, in life when I was going through something, I would create instrumentals on piano. And playing classical music has always resonated deeply within my spirit - because even in moments when I felt like the world around me was falling apart, the notes on the page always made sense….”
While living in Taos, NM, Meredith discovered Yoga. This practice has been a source of strength and healing for her. She became a certified instructor in 2007 and since that time has taught various classes and workshops including her self-created, VOGA - yoga for voice and creativity, as well as Bound Lotus Meditation, which she practiced daily for over 8 years.
When Meredith attended Berklee Online to learn about the recording software, Ableton Live, the original goal was to add some looping and soundscapes to her live singer/songwriter performances. Unexpectedly, she fell in love with the process of creating music in this format and started spending more time in the studio producing tracks which included instrumental compositions.
A few years later, a friend introduced Sylkie Monoff of the small German Label, SyWa records to Meredith and her instrumental creations. The label fell in love with her piano-based compositions, the simplicity of her arrangements and her unique sound that couples modern electronic elements with orchestral instrumentation. And a partnership was formed.
Why the name Tranquil Light?
“For me music is about sharing the light - especially in this format where I want people to listen for healing, relaxation, improved sleep, yoga practice and meditation. And alongside of that, I want people to feel peace and tranquility as they experience the music.
I chose the Lotus as a symbol because it of its association with spiritual enlightenment, it’s simple beauty and I’ve always loved the idea that it is able to blossom from the mud."
"Our world today is so fraught with challenges and ‘psychic mud’ I want to remind people that we have the strength to access our peace within, bloom in the midst of chaos and that transformation is always possible.”
